Will Amtrak hire a locomotive engineer off the street?


rare, yes happens. invited once test , interview amtrak engineer position out of nyc. have no rr experience @ all. told them more suited conductor insisted based on past experience better suited locomotive engineer. can happen, don't count on it. try conductor, easy pie moving engineer. great job, great pay, enormous amount of travel away family. ton of responsibility, not easy. have lives in hands, not taken lightly.

i've heard do, i've heard it's within. applied passenger engineer trainee position recently. job can't hard. think can learn training.
