What were the reason to why fighter jets were built.?


initially, planes thought never useful combat tool. countries used balloons spot enemy troops, replaced first planes in wwi. allied , axis planes literally fly each other , wave getting intelligence enemy troops at. went on, pilots started using pistols try , kill other pilot enemy wouldn't know buddies on ground were.

went on until mounted guns on planes, , used them escort bombers targets. bomber's job kill buildings , fortifications, , fighter's (known pursuit aircraft then) keep bombers alive.

in modern day, fighters have taken on both roles part. big raids, still use bombers b1, b2, b52, etc. smaller targets send couple joint strike fighters such f-18 "bomb" target. these fighters can , defend themselves.

fighter's role air supremacy- make sure friendly planes safe please.
