Which one is better ps3 or Xbox ?

depends. want technical answer, or functionality answer? i'll go under assumption want both. playstation 3 uses blu-ray discs. have much, higher storage capacity dual-layer dvd's xbox 360 uses, file size difference goes such:
xbox 360: dual layer dvd 8.00 gb (the actual number 7.65-85 i'm using basic rounding.
playstation 3: blu-ray disc 25 gb (single layer) 50 gb (dual layer)

rest of comparison, i'm gonna using xbox 360 s , playstation 3 slim examples.
cpu:
playstation 3 slim: cell broadband engine (3.2 ghz power-based ppe 7 3.2 ghz spes)
xbox 360 s: 3.2 ghz powerpc tri-core xenon.
i'd compare 2 if explain differences, require me knowing information, don't.

processor cores:
playstation 3: 8
xbox 360: 3
playstation 3 sounds better in regard, however, i'll explain bit better further down answer, not games utilize many cores.

gpu clock speed:
playstation 3: 550 mhz
xbox 360: 500 mhz

ram:
playstation 3: 256 mb xdr
xbox 360: 512 mb gddr3 @ 700 mhz (shared between cpu , gpu)

bits:
both of them 128. if mattered.

storage:
playstation 3: 320 gb
xbox 360: 20 gb (though variable thing, models have built in memory rivals ps3, plus can add hard drive adds 320 gb storage capacity)
in regard, xbox can potentially have better memory, otherwise playstation 3 trumps xbox 360 here.

i'll go bit more functionality. if playing games designed ps3, in, console exclusive titles, going better gaming experience on xbox 360, because remember 8 cores vs 3 cores? if game designed utilize 8 cores, it's overall quality going dramatically better, problem is, many games cross platform, meaning simultaneously developed both xbox 360 , playstation 3 @ same time, using of same code, in regard, games have developed in way can fitted each console properly, since of code same, xbox 360 limits can games, because if try special code because caters playstation 3, xbox 360 edition lose functionality.
@ way, if interested in games call of duty, grand theft auto, , other cross platform titles, may more interested in buying xbox 360, 1 because it's cheaper, 2 because game wouldn't different/better on ps3, , games having serious problems dlc on ps3 *looks towards skyrim*
, in opinion, despite stupidly updated xbox 360 dashboard, think playstation 3's "hub/dashboard" thing awkward use, may me, bit confused i'm supposed go on find i'm looking for. xbox 360's dashboard more user friendly.

if want bit of info on controller setup, think xbox 360's controller layout superior playstation 3's, many games today use d-pad as other 2 analog sticks, , can't accidentally hit directional analog stick accident when trying use playstation 3's d-pad, xbox's lower , closer you, , doesn't provide possibility of hitting excess buttons accident.
