can upload photo, use yahoo! cartoon, or use 1 facebook or twitter avatar.
have heard facebook or twitter avatars along yahoo must jpg have not been able verify it.

step 1.
profile hidden.
in order avatar appear may have make yahoo! profile visible. try other steps , come here if not appear.
go to: http://profile.yahoo.com/y/settings/priv... , make sure profile not hidden.
there no reason hide profile. nothing appears unless enter , turn switch on. name can want.

step 2.
if want use facebook or twitter avatar sure link sites in profile options.

step 3.
create cartoon avatar first go http://avatars.yahoo.com , create one.

step 4.
have 3 choices of choose photo use.

✔ while @ http://avatars.yahoo.com click on "yahoo!" under "export avatar".

✔ go yahoo! answers settings @ http://answers.yahoo.com/my-activity/edit/about , click on "update photo or avatar".

✔ go yahoo! profile @ http://profile.yahoo.com , click on current avatar.

upload 1 or choose existing one. same avatar used throughout yahoo!.
