Do you have to do anything to the pickups to put a pickgaurd in?
hello again,
swapping out pickguard not complicated, can bit of pain. folks sell pickguard supposedly fits fender strat. of course have no idea fender strat fits. not 1 size fits all. fender has used many different patterns mounting holes. can expect need drill 1 or more new mounting holes. rare when 11 holes on pickguard align holes in body (8 holes vintage 50s strats).
work not knock solder joint loose. end knocking 1 loose anyway, try not to. have soldering iron , solder handy in case rough am. lay new pickguard on 1 on guitar see how close matches. way know getting into. check see holes pots line up. have seen supposed fender pickguards holes pots close edge of control cavity not use it. assuning new 1 close enough use. remove strings. if don't want take strings off, unscrew neck mounting screws , pull neck side. strings out of way. remove plasitc knobs first. use table knife pry knobs pots. remove switch knob. take out switch screws. take nut off each pot , washer. take out mounting screws pickguard. unscrew pickup mounting screws. go neck down bridge.now should fall off pickguard. put on in reverse order (except 11 mounting screws). go last. hold pot tighten nut pot not turn. if turns, can break solder joints. after pickups, switch , pots on, check see none of solder joints got broken. remember ground tremolo , 2 leads jack not long. not have lot of slack in them. mounted, pickguard not move far away body.
oh forgot. after have off old pickguard , have set aside. before start mounting parts on new one, lay new 1 on body see screw holes need drill.
later,
my pickgaurd on 1 of strats(classic players) scratched , had blood on bought new one.
have pickups put in?
