How many windmills does it take to equalize the energy output of a nuclear power plant?

depends on wind turbine , nuclear plant. powerful wind turbine on planet can produce maximum of 8 megawatts of power @ time. normal wind turbines put out anywhere between 25 kilowatts (.025 megawatts) 5 megawatts depending on size of turbine , design of it. assuming wind blowing @ great enough speed put out energy level, operate @ 10-40% total output.

average output of nuclear power plant 850 megawatts , can range between 200 megawatts 1500 megawatts depending on design , outputs consistently when reactor not shutdown.

so, if take average output nuclear reactor (850 megawatts) , divide average normal output of 5 megawatt wind turbine (about 2 megawatts on average), need 425 turbines meet same power capacity. keep in mind cost of 5 megawatt wind turbine $10 million each whereas cost of new ap1000 nuclear reactors output 1500 megawatts $10 billion. cost per megawatt of wind generators $5 million , new nuclear plants $150 thousand making new nuclear plants cheaper option.
