What is the difference between a original 1962 Stratocaster, and a reissue 62 Stratocaster.?

have played 62 strat in 60s. may have been 63, not sure. have played earlier , later strats. in day, speak. own reissues. can evaluate basis opinions.

big difference in sound, feel , quality? in ways yes. first need make clear talking when "reissue." there avri (american vintage reissue), there mij reissue , there various classic 60s series. not equal, not long shot.

sound? hard judge. playing thru vintage amps. new then. not same amps of today.. affects sound lot. long time ago. liked 57 thru 60 strats best. 61 , 62 close 60. after things started changing (even before leo sold fender cbs). leo not active after 60. of various reissues, think older avri 62s close. made 1982 sometime in 1987. classic 60 series guitars not close. mij 62 reissue not close. of hot rod 62s , junk not intended sound close.

feel? avri feels closest. darn close recall.

quality? here big difference. cannot rosewood used on originals these days. of so-called reissues not made original specs. neck of classic 60s series not feel old necks did. mij 62 reissue not made same specs. avri made same specs. quality varies. made 1982 though sometime in 1987 stand apart rest. don't think specs changed later production avri.the people making them changed. @ time when fender going down tubes, came idea of avri series means save fender. took 2 landmark years' strats , tried reproduce them close originals could. took small crew of skilled guitar makers , specially trained them. production limited. avri guitar reestablish fender's reputation , put effort making not good, great. production @ fullerton plant 1982 through 1984. cbs sold fender employees. fullerton plant not part of sale. there no made fender guitars after sale until new corona plant opened in october 1985. accounts have read (by folks working there @ time) there 9 people building avri guitars during 1985. production in hundreds. production increased in 1986 , carried on 1987. these avri guitars crafted trained builders trying build great guitars save company. sometime in 1987, fender created fender custom shop , moved skilled guitar builders it. closest thing custom shop guitar can regular production models avri guitars 1982 through 1987. quality of work put building excellent. after that, avri became production guitar.

62 worth more? fender's production numbers in 50s , 60s low compared staggering numbers of guitars being built now. there never lot of them made. after 50 years, number of gone. there not not many still available. there big demand old strats. simple economics. low supply , high demand. means big price tag.

there other differences of course. not same steel used in hardware. not same wire used in coils. cannot beautiful brazilian rosewood these days. of us, originals costly buy. question becomes of many so-called reissues best?
