Can someone explain to me what the NHL lockout is and why it is happening?


nhl collection of business men own 30 hockey teams. these men had agreement 750 players play hockey games in facilities, under auspices. in agreement there number of rules regarding split of revenue generated play of these games. during last 7 years amount of revenue generated has increased , rules of agreement seemed favour players. term of agreement concluded on september 15th of year. approximately 18 of these teams appear have lost money during agreement. while of 12 made money attempted circumvent rules of agreement inflict more problems on group losing money.
under labour laws owners couldn't unilaterally change terms of agreement negotiations attempted renegotiate better conditions owners. players didn't want change of conditions. after why should these loopholes making them more money envisioned 7 years ago. refused negotiate until agreement expired. owners locked them out until problems resolved.
owners initial response mirror image of previous agreement. after if 57% of revenue enough players in 2005, why shouldn't enough owners in 2012? players waited 3 weeks before responding , answered offer of no change. owners made second offer of split of revenue. players made proposal have impressed david copperfield , made 4 identical proposals identical initial offering, when past smoke , mirrors.
latest offer owners 50/50 split restitution of owed moneys being paid. players last proposal reduction 56.5% (from 57%) of revenue , and annual increase of 3.5% in salary until split 50/50 or end of agreement whichever comes first. 18 owners losing money don't see improvement.

go? today union (nhlpa) in process of de-certifying. if occurs entire group may end in court no apparent end in sight. not lose 2012-13 season maybe 2013-14 season in jeopardy.

in meantime watch college, junior or minor league hockey. game's same.

all know games keep getting cancelled, it'd great if explain why me please (sorry, i'm new whole watching nhl thing lol).
