Can someone help me understand the value of currencies?


don't understand how currencies offer value specific country... currently, believe pound valuable currency, followed euro dollar, correct? don't see how implies country's wealth, , i'm new stocks (i'm 14 , getting highly interested in business, stocks, , stock market).

ethiopian living in america, know 1 u.s dollar equal 18 ethiopian dollars (birr). have been ethiopia few times family visit relatives, , it's poor, poor country, people barely have clothes, food, , shelter. on other hand, country south korea wealthy. thing is 1 u.s dollar equal 1,067 korean won. isn't more valuable currency, richer country?

korea rich country, booming economy in technologies (like samsung). ethiopia war stricken, famine spread country little power in economics. comparing u.s dollar though, ethiopian birr more valuable korean won. don't understand this?

can explain deeply? doesn't have simple, because though i'm 14, understand many things. want learn lot economics @ young age can more readily prepared later on in life when enter business world.
