Traction Control on a 2005 Volkswagen Jetta?


got 2005 vw jetta recently; it's loaded 1 sunroof, leather interior, etc , have question it. has traction control , i've never driven vehicle before. leave on time. have question; onset of winter , snow , icy roads....do keep car in "drive" time, if conditions bad, roads slick....or need switch gears or use speed shift or that????

appreciated because i'm new vw's , new traction control. i'm used driving car need switch second or third gear when winter roads bad...so i'm not sure here!! thanks!!
