What is a good internet speed for me?
recommend 10 30 mbps depending on how many simultaneous users in household.
if 10 15 mbps should suffice, if multiple users go 20 mbps or higher.
at&t has 2 types of broadband internet service:
1.) standard dsl - slowest type of mainstream broadband service. uses standard copper twisted pair wiring provide internet , telephone service. television service provided affiliated satellite company.
2.) u-verse - fttk (fiber kerb/curb) uses copper curb house. fiber connections provide adsl2+ or vdsl internet speeds 24 mbps , can provide on demand hd television , digital telephone service on same line.
note: u-verse not available in areas.
if have u-verse, there various speed tiers ranging 3 24 mbps. go speed testing site such http://speedtest.net , test download speed. if low or not speed paying call at&t , see if can upgrade or fix problem.
standard dsl rapidly being replaced newer, faster technologies. docsis 3.0 cable internet provides speeds blazing 305 mbps in areas. fiber optic adsl2+ , vdsl products offered in excess of 100 mbps.
google , time warner have 1 gbps fiber being installed, that's whopping 1000 mbps. http://isp1.us/blog/time-warner-brings-1...
lot depend on internet providers available in specific area , levels of service offer in location.
compare local competitors, go isp comparison site lets input address, http://isp1.us/find/ , compare pricing , terms of offers available in area.
physical address needed because services, particularly dsl, distance sensitive. example might able specific level of service while next door neighbor can't.
you'll want pick fastest plan fits budget. in areas can 300 mbps+. these high end broadband plans expensive. may find in 10 30 mbps range might satisfy needs @ lower cost.
luck...
