Fireplace question...help?


have brick fireplace in den. it's opening 35"w , 28"h. chimney 14' tall. other night used first time since moved in house , smoke came in around top of fireplace opening. inside dimentions of flue 12x12. since flue 1 foot above roof peak thought might not drawing good. had cap made , used 5' of galvanized flue pipe , rain cap hoping height might make draw better. tonight built small fire , same thing happened. warmed chimney first burning handful of newspapers before lit fire. wondering if fireplace opening tall , smoke guard needs installed or 6" pipe extended small. it's not windy either when build fire. had damper opened way.

have suggestion? thanks!
