30% of tank should “dry land” turtle dry-out, bask , uv light.
large commercial basking area such exo terra basking bank works in deep water. in shallow water, e.g. musk turtles there danger of baby turtle getting jammed under bank , drowning. there should 2” gap between lower edge of bank , tank floor prevent happening.

many older terrapins , turtles require significant quantities of green leafy matter. can supply pond or aquarium plants / weeds , romaine lettuce.
should have cuttlefish bone floating in water supply of calcium , aid natural beak trimming.

feeding live fish & thiaminase

should never feed live fish turtles in captivity.
many live , dead raw fish , shrimps contain enzyme - thiaminaise - in tissues causes vitamin b1 deficiency , premature death.

turtle filtration – external canister filter

aquarium filters designed fish, turtles produce lot more waste best using external canister filter rated @ 3-times capacity of actual tank.
so, 55 gallon tank need filter 160 gallons [minimum] effective.
