How long after I turn off the hot water heater will the shower run cold?


teenage son goes in bathroom, turns on shower warm up, sits there doing other things half hour before getting in shower. i've tried every civil idea have him change habit, , none have worked. consequently, i'd cure him of waiting until gets in shower turning off hot water supply. i'd prefer give him short blast of cold water first few times, hot returning promptly, see if he'll message without having drenched , freezing (he has asthma, i'd avoid latter).

if turn off inlet, count 5 turn on, experience 5 second cold burst in shower or there enough residual hot water flow through shower won't cold?

(we have 2 story house, shower on top floor, heater in basement on far side.)
