Would you care if America no longer had the NHL?
in short term, suck, long term great. if nhl disbanded, league arise take place , odds new league better run. there's major audience sport of hockey in both canada , u.s. nhl had better third best attendance numbers of north american sports league in recent years. hockey has second successful minor league system in u.s., behind baseball. it's fastest-growing american college sport in both participation , attendance in past decade. (and in canada, it's top dog @ levels.) if nhl goes away, people making money there replace it, in long term, wouldn't bother me much.
above answer assumes mean america continental body. if meant u.s. , meant "what if nhl pulled out of states , went being all-canadian league?", better! mean, when new major league in u.s. got established, inevitable merger of 2 leagues still result in better-run league , we'd still have top-flight hockey in canada during interim. win-win.
