Clay Sculpture Question?


while i've been looking statue of goddess hekate. of ones made aren't quite right want. means i'm embarking on making own. problem in no way, shape, or form artistic.

being said have few questions:
1. there majorly wrong covering clay? example, 1 of wooden mannequins art kids use study body? or barbie doll shaved hair? way, i'd have basic human shape build upon.
2. type of clay project? if i'm covering something, it'd have air-dry.
3. there else i'd need project, or helpful? or suggestions? i'm out of element.
