Why is the UK so far behind in TV shows?


i’m curious. i’m american , found out uk has not seen new episode of ‘’ pretty little liars’’ since may 2012, that’s 9 months , finished second season. here in america on second half of season 3. wouldn’t better air episodes around same time because pll mystery show, people can watch on internet , find out happens, when airs on tv nobody watch because have seen few months prior. wouldn’t better network’s rating if aired around same time? i’ve heard people happens because of sponsors, don’t it. happens other tv shows too. why this?
