don't think we're getting stupider. it's communication lot easier used be. crazy doomsdayers used wander around in "the end nigh" sandwichboard signs, handing out pamphlets. might preach few hundred people, , maybe convince 0.01% of them. nutjob can go on internet , reach thousands or millions of people. doesn't many journalists shifting "reporting news" mindset "tell stories sell papers" approach.
