Thoughts on the teachers strike in Ontario?
parent , professional not allowed strike.
teachers have had far far long , union has become far powerful. supposed have been negotiating new contract 10 months. still have until dec. 31 seal deal. instead, choose walk around in circles on street corners. why bill 115 necessary - prevent labor groups holding hostage until want. can't want , if don't act in reasonable amount of time, there should recourse things normal. fire them , hire new ones if that's takes, long taxpayer paying taxes children's education, children should have education.
money (those 20 banked sick days per year being major source of contention) , taxpayer cannot afford longer. days of getting whatever want in return voting office gone. there no more money. work out deal , work. there plenty of people willing job @ fraction of pay , benefits.
unions known publicly supporting each other when push comes shove.
notice how no other union in province coming teachers' defense?
@gussie: teachers may draw paychecks banks of school boards, think school boards money? province.
teachers take courses during summer move pay grid , no other reason. once @ top pay grid, no longer take such courses. teachers buy own supplies, lot provided through school expense accounts , fundraising activities scholastic book orders fortify classrooms new materials.
there teacher's aides (or whatever official titles are) learning , behavioural students. daughter has 1 in classroom 2 "challenged students" in class. (as side note, says distracting).
"teaching has changed on years , not walk in park." true, ask has job , tell how hard work , how underpaid are. teachers not profession brings work home , work overtime, remember other professions require put in full 8 hours in office before work goes home. teachers have kids 6 hours day. see nothing wrong making them put full 8 hour day of rest of us. leaves 2 hours per day prep, marking, staff meetings, , once or twice weekly basketball or choir practice.
if indicate (teacher, parent, student, politician, etc.) appreciated.
