Whats the career out look for pilots?

answer lies somewhere between inflated optimism of pilot , "worst case" scenario of skipper, although skipper closer being right in opinion. "half of pilots" retiring @ once isn't correct. there still steady flow of pilots entering work force, , steady flow retiring. it's numbers trickling. there's not high rate of hires , retires going on right now. means airlines have luxury of selecting best pilots, experience, best references, best personality fit company, etc. expect demand pilots increase more pilots retire, not radically. skipper's right airline industry "first suffer, last recover" when economy bad. , right economic outlook uncertain.

you're young, , 5 years down road might in better shape. go ahead , give 100% effort if know flying want do. pilot's salary range of $15,000-$30,000 correct wages you're going make anywhere 5 10 years. never, ever, nada make $300,000 year. days long gone. if managed career , jumped through right hoops , got hired top paying airline fedex someday, might retire @ 65 seeing salary of $200,000-$250,000 tops.

armed forces take burden of flight training expense, it's harder slot military aviator civilian pilot...much harder. unless can achieve near perfect grades in school, pass physical no flaws, , have stellar recommendations important people, i'd forget military. chances improved if attempt army helicopter pilot opposed other branches, education requirements require college , not four-year degree. military pay scale entry level o-1 , o-2 officers between $3000-$4000 month, better entry level civilian pilots. however, once civilian pilots rise major airline captains, pay rivals career military pilots equivalent years of service. 20 years @ major airline compared 20 years military officer rises o-8 or brigadier general/major general have similar paychecks.)

i'm in high school looking @ different careers , have wanted pilot. expensive learn unless join air force know kind of pay , competition should expect if go aviation
