How to teach your self how to play guitar?

nowadays, there plenty of resources online learning guitar.

don't style want play, if want learn classical guitar, i'd tuition book , work through that, try of abrsm grade 1 or 2 pieces.

if want learn popular style (rock/blues/pop), i'd try simple structured approach. popular songs use fifteen basic chords, both major , minor. first learn "open" chords - e, g, a, c, d. learn these in both major , minor forms.

move on "barre" chords. because of way these played, learning f major , minor (with lowest root note on 6th string) , b flat major , minor (with lowest root note on 5th string) enable play every other barre chord of particular shape. may not sense right now, once start you'll understand mean.

once you've got chords under belt (which think take 4 5 months depending on how practice), can move on whatever else interests - jazz chording, blues soloing, country, etc.

play piano grade 4, wouldn't think understanding rhythm problem - make effort learn songs enjoy in order chords under fingers.
