Should I pack my laptop when traveling across the world?

in few months i'm traveling half way across world , have wired thing traveling , leaving behind valuables because we've had few burglaries in our neighborhood. want take laptop me can't bothered taking in carry on. 1. because heavy 2. don't have room in carry on 3. can't bothered taking out @ every security check point (because might slow down , have tight flight schedule.)

may able take in checked baggage if 1. wrap in blanket/bubble wrap 2. pack in between clothes can't move around 3. put mini padlock on zips , carry key me on plane. kind of don't want because last time lost our luggage in asia somewhere nothing wrong/missing when got back.

or better of files on memory stick , hope nothing taken (we insured)
