An external hard-drive for recordings?


hello, screen recordings playing games , commentating on them youtube, , wondering if buying external hard-drive (i'm thinking around 1tb) improve performance.

i've got 2.0ghz macbook pro 15 inch, intel quad-core i7 6490 amd radeon hd graphics card @ 256 mb , 4gb memory. have done recordings before on internal hard-drive have had few performance issues due recording, make difference? (i intend use hard-drive other purposes relating recordings).
