if @ birth, bookcase stood,
of varied size , sturdy wood
, countless spoken words
scribed perceived them heard.

how simple, void of recompense,
, blind of future consequence.
compiling volumes vainly left
in books of exclusive self.

search fragile pages bound
others' stories never found,
might define , make sense
of gains @ other hearts' expense.

people, dates, events confuse.
promise of love misused
thoughts of yourself,
except footnotes briefly left.

memory have explained,
melts snow in pelting rain.
sagging shelves have day,
bindings dry , flake away.
