Guidelines for buying second hand sewing machines?


saw sewing machine @ goodwill 95 dollars. can't tell brand is. it's heavy looks vintage, aquamarine, looks says "voque" or "vogue" custom, deluxe 700, jewel-o-matic. says manufacturing company machine.
comes pedal, did turn on , stitching looks tight. had trouble bobbin , needle fell off, don't know how sew can't tell if because messed or if machine not good. looks 1 stitch. want know kind of machine there can figure out if should or not.
