How to get rid of ants in the house?


in our home, there 1 or 2 ants in each room. kill them every time go back, there 3-3 ants in room. took everthing out, , wiped down alcohol wipes. put boric powder on baseboard , ants keep coming back. know small number of ants, afraid lot more come. other measures can take rid of them? please don't tell me exterminator.thanks!
