How to make a basement more comfortable for a bedroom?


i'm not fond of basements, we're moving dads girlfriend's house , wondering how make bedroom in basement more comfortable? small room little standard basement-sized window. we're going paint (what color should paint it??), add carpet (tips?), , else can. tips?? i'm real earthy person i'm thinking ill add plants , stuff, maybe paint mural of outside make more comfy.
