need find longest chain if have change directions so. starting bottom have ch3-ch2 c continues right total of 8 carbons. octane.

have number carbons starting side closer first branch. starting right side, first branch on number 6 starting bottom left, first branch number 3. start numbering bottom left.

then, name branches prefixes. there ethyl on number 3 , methyl on number three. when naming compound, put prefixes in alphabetical order. get:
3-ethyl-3-methyloctane
