Why do some people leave a huge gap in front of their car at stoplights?

imagine line of cars waiting @ red light. people leave 5 feet between front bumper , rear bumper of car in front of them, there's 1 person leaves huge 30-foot space in front of themselves, car can fit within space. have theory people far-sighted , not wearing glasses or contacts. thoughts?
