Do acoustic guitars have a better sound than Acoustic-electric guitars?

own washburn acoustic-electric guitar , loved @ first. thought didnt sound great because beginner played badly, practiced, noticed it's sound not attractive when compared others (i have heard guitars start sound better age - whether true or not, dont know). compared uncles acoustic fender, guitar not have sound, in opinion (i'm no expert on guitars, opinion). 'smooth' , strum blends well, while strings on mine obnoxious.

because of strings? normal acoustic-electric? paid $200 it, thought sound better.
