I read that some Indian chiefs in Canada said that they were living in concentration camp like settings. Why?

aren't true.

until 1977, there official policy try assimilate natives broader canadian culture. meant providing housing, education, , on natives not different. failed pretty significantly. while education, etc. appreciated, idea of losing distinctive cultures canadian 1 intensely disliked part. and, 1970's, canada becoming officially multi-cultural, so, policy ended legally, although had been ended time before that. so, canada not trying exterminate natives. totally illegal under canadian law.

however, general rule, there serious issues natives, respect rest of canada. example, can gain wealth land (resources, farming, forestry, etc.). under many of old treaties, natives surrendered rights land in return annual payments. now, @ time of signing, these payments good. but, did not take inflation account, , many peoples, today wouldn't pay gas go town pick them up. so, no land earn money, , payments pretty meaningless now. so, many natives, in more remote areas exceedingly poor, , have little access methods of gaining wealth. non-natives can more better area, but, native rights tied particular peoples, treaties, , location. can't more without surrendering rights have (to health care, education, housing, etc.).

complex situation, , there no easy solutions. natives know this! social issues rampant - when kids in past taken away residential schools, not parented. now, old enough parents (and grand-parents) themselves, not have parenting skills - have had no moms , dads in lives in loving, family way. so, kids growing messed up, without guidance needed.

now, things improving! but, natives know 2 or 3 generations before things anywhere near in sort of thing alone. and, that's without financial issues.

there modern success stories. e.g., nishga treaty of few years ago, , 14 self government agreements native groups in yukon. not perfect solutions, but, natives have been given rights, , abilities govern on lands, , rights traditional lands around exclusive lands well. not ownership, but, rights control access, , industry name two. and, there native groups learned play non-native game well, , thriving. sadly, not universal.

however, protesting exaggerate greatly. isn't needed; many, real story plenty bad enough. but, happens. and, true; reserved conditions no better concentration camp, , worse. but, there no 1 reason this, , both natives, , non-natives need share blame.

terry nelson or said canada had concentration camps indian natives. said canada trying exterminate natives. why doesn't world know these canadian atrocities? why canadians think can race?
