in doctor episode "the parting of ways", ninth doctor abandons jack on satellite 5, , immortal. jack uses vortex manipulator wristband travel in time try catch doctor in 21st century. however, overshoots , ends in 1869, , forced wait through rest of 19th , of 20th centuries catch doctor. becomes hired gun torchwood during time, , takes on torchwood 3 around year 2000 when boss murders rest of torchwood team , kills himself.
