What value does Art have in Buddhism?

i'm curious topic, , forward hearing ideas.... here's supplementary ponderings add main question:

buddhist views art? (visual art, music, literature etc etc.). purpose buddhists believe art have, if any?

dalai lama said people must try find happiness @ "mental level" opposed "sensory level" through things such movies , music. "it's not deep," said. - though, can art not people gain happiness @ mental level - in way can learn speaking, can not learn art? - form of communication after all, isn't it? so, can art develop things compassion?
