What makes a painting valuable?


went art museum little while ago , there extremely valuable stuff there, honest, of stuff there not great. don't mean sound snobby, think better couple of paintings in there. don't know if makes sense, feel kind of let down when go great museum , there amazing stuff being put in same room unimpressive..dare it? yes, do. junk. unimpressive junk. guess question gives visually unappealing art great value?
