Is it safe to travel to Mazatlan?


have lived in mazatlan past 7 years (year 'round) , can tell you safe in mazatlan. since expect staying in "tourist areas" have nothing worried long follow same safe practices use in large city anywhere in world. awareness of surroundings, avoiding poorly lit areas, not flashing large amounts of money or jewelry , not putting bad situation (or should be) standard practice wherever go.
danger of violence has been exaggerated relates tourist. intents , purposes unless looking buy drugs in large quantities or member of cartel safe. killings have occurred in mazatlan have taken place in hill country (mazatlan larger state or rhode island) , know of 1 nob person has been killed (again walking in drug area @ night). "drive by" shootings common in virtually non-existent here. cartels go after specific individuals , attack them - standers not hurt. street muggings concern caution of , preventable following sensible practices.
while understand concerns highly recommend getting out of inclusive resort , visit other parts of mazatlan. centro great cultural area check out , can done in few hours during 1 of days here.

my husband , booked trip mazatlan our 2 , half year old daughter inclusive resort. not planning on leaving our resort @ ( , airport ).. has been there , safe our young daughter? thanks.
