In solids, heat is transferred by?

answer conduction

reason: note 3 methods of heat transfer dependent on nature of medium:

conduction: conduction occurs when 2 solid masses of different temperatures touch directly. molecules of warmer object have more thermal energy , momentum. when make contact less energetic molecules in cooler object, energy transferred.

convection: convection transfer of heat through liquid or gas. when molecules of fluid heated, lose density , therefore lighter. causes them rise top of fluid, carrying heat them , sinking down when heat has transferred. process creates convection currents throughout fluid.

radiation: objects temperature above absolute 0 emit electromagnetic radiation, or oscillating waves travel through space @ speed of light. radiation form of heat transfer can operate in vacuum.

a. radiation b. refection

c. convection d. conduction
